My Bio
I have been practicing the alternative/complementary healings arts for over 25 years. My training as a yoga teaching assistant led to a meditation practice and then to the study and practice of energy healing modalities. Allopathic/Western medical practices and Eastern/ Oriental healing methods are beginning to meld. For what seemed like a long time, the divide appeared to be too vast to come together in my lifetime, but things have changed. When drugs and surgery were the main options for stabalizing and returning to health, doctors and main stream practitioners are asking their patients questions like “what’s been going on in your life?” and, “have you considered taking a yoga or stress management class?”. Having said that, due to enormous stresses on doctors, nurses etc, with the current health care system crisis, it seems too much of a burden for the medical system to have the time to educate themselves with alternatives practices. It is up to the complementary health care practitioners to educate the public regarding their Health care options. I capitalize ‘Health’ because I believe that true health is a multi faceted state of being. It isn’t enough to focus on, let’s say nutrition and fitness alone. Examining how we are with ourselves and with one another is a vital and ongoing practice if one is to be aware and mindful, making the kinds of life choices that are ‘Healthful’. Pursuing ‘Health’ may involve examining with a professional how internal patterns and belief systems are sometimes the underlying sabotage mechanisms for how we feel and for our behaviour. It may involve educating oneself on basic anatomy and physiology and learning how to pay attention to messages from the body/mind. Deepening into some kind of Stillness practice is possibly the most important part of a daily self care regime. If this time of settling and deepening into one’s inner self becomes a regular practice, life can most definitely become more harmonious. Nervous systems balance, brain waves, hormones and chemicals regulate, respiration becomes more efficient, digestion improves etc. Spiritually one feels more ’connected’.
